FALL ▹ THE FINER DETAILS

4 May 2015

No this isn't a guide on how to land on your face, instead it's a guide on how to survive that awkward season where it is neither warm nor cold. Besides the obvious coats, tops and bottoms I've decided to focus on the finer details - nails, makeup, shoes and other bits and bobs that help to tie an outfit together. What comes to mind when you think of "Autumn"? Is it orange? Maybe gum boots? Orange gum boots? Luckily for you I've come up with a few tips that will help you to accessorise and survive this season, and no it doesn't necessarily involve dressing like a carrot with rain boots.

Fall/Autumn - A guide written by yours truly

Nails are often the finishing touches of a perfect look. They can help to add colour to your muted colour scheme, or even enhance the colour palette you're wearing. During the Autumn months I like to slowly transition my nails to wintery colours. These include red-browns, greys, burgundy or if you've got an eye for shimmer - even rose gold and bronzes.

Similar to the nail colour palette, I like to stick to nudes, browns and reds, these are very flattering for the Autumn time. Orange lipsticks tend to be more of a statement colour and I like to save those for Spring/Summer because of it's vibrancy which can be too bright for fall.

In order to create that perfect Autumn look, you need to make sure you look "perfect" from head to toe. Which is why your choice in footwear can either make or break your outfit. For Autumn I like to bring out my favourite pair of booties, these can either be ankle boots, knee high boots and for those wet days - rain boots! Boots are very versatile and they help to keep your feet and toes warm and dry. Loafers are also essential for Autumn as they can really smarten up a look or to make it more chic.

The perfect solution for a bad hair day. Hats can also be used to give your outfit a little nudge from basic to babe. Whether they're fedoras, wide-brim or floppy, hats can be a great statement piece for your wardrobe.

These are just some  icing on the cake examples to help complete your fall look. What's your favourite Autumn accessory?

HOW TO ▹ GET AWAY WITH MIDRIFFS

13 Sept 2014

Crop tops are tops that end before your stomach, this can be extremely terrifying for those that don't want to bare their stomach area. Over the past years crop tops have been a closet staple and are highly sought after, this means that stores are now producing more crop tops with better designs and varied colours. This can be a blessing for some but unfortunate for others.

If you're too uncomfortable to flaunt your stomach to the world, but want to try out the wonders of midriffs, the best way is to wrap an item of clothing around your waist. A bit of a 90s throwback, but like all fashion throwbacks they come back around.

In this photo I've mixed two different prints and colours. This will allow your prints to compliment one another giving the overall stylish effect.

This time round I decided to be a little bold and give this outfit a pop of colour with a sweater/jumper. By using bright or bold colours you can make a plain outfit a little bit more interesting.

Flannels are a great piece to wrap around the waist. Because they are often long, they help to add length so that your outfit has different levels. A great way to style flannels are to use contrasting colours such as the dark grey and light blue.

It's always good to step out of your comfort zone and to try different things. Don't forget to love your body, you shouldn't have to restrict yourself from trying new things because you're afraid of what others would say. Be happy with who you are and be confident!
